The Columbia Linux User Group met on 10 July 2008 at 6:30PM.
Shay, Louis, Scott, Bob, Ben, Fred, Phil, and Jose attended.
Fred Richards gave an excellent presentation on Redhat Kickstart.
Some highlights:
- Kickstart does an automatic installation from a CD or the network via PXE booting based on what the sysadmin specifies.
Bob asked how to get Mediawiki to play nice with SELinux. For SELinux "ls -Z" is your friend. Use cp -Z to keep file attributes. Ref: http://elibrary.fultus.com/technical/index.jsp?topic=/com.fultus.redhat.elinux5/manuals/Deployment_Guide/rhlcommon-chapter-0017.html.
Slax is one of Fred's favorite Live CDs.
The old "Linux Magazine" (http://www.linux-mag.com) is now "Linux Pro Magazine", starting with the August 2008 issue. The article in this one is on Page 30 and really dedicated to Kickstart moreso than PXE.
Ben said there is another automatic install package called FAI, based on Debian Linux. Kickstart seems easier.
The meeting ended around 8:00PM.
