I am the immediate past-president of the Columbia Linux Users Group (ColaLUG), a position I assumed in August 2005 and held until March 2007.
Since 1977, I have worked with a variety of volunteer groups and associations. My latest leadership position prior to ColaLUG was as president of the the Toastmasters Club at SCANA. Starting with almost 50 members, the club is the largest in South Carolina. In its first year we achieved the Toastmasters International highest award: President's Distinguished Club.
My vision for the ColaLUG is of a dynamic organization. I anticipate we will have at least 20 members at each meeting. Our educational efforts will include basic and advanced topics at each meeting. We will also hold LUGNUT (New User Training) sessions quarterly and Install Fests two-three times per year. Within two years I see us working with organizations and businesses in the Midlands to help them with projects involving Linux and Open Source. Many schools and charitable organizations could drastically benefit from using Linux and Open Source/Free products.
I work as an Analyst for SCANA Services. My responsibilities include building packages to distribute applications to over 5000 workstations and 600 servers in a Win-Tel environment.
Although I am a Linux noobie, I am passionate about the concept of free software and open source; I believe they are the best solutions for the advancement of computer usage in our world.
I recently moved back to Columbia from the rural area of Winnsboro. My wife and I have managed several businesses from our home, including one involving web design and hosting. We also provide ad specialty items to businesses and other organizations, and scrapbooking supplies for the hobbiest.
